CANEY BAY — The driver of a pickup truck involved in a head-on crash on the South Georgia Parkway experienced a medical emergency prior to the crash, according to the Georgia State Patrol accident report. William Joseph Casvant, 52, of Brantley County, was stabilized by Brantley County EMTs and then driven to Memorial Satilla Health Waycross for examination for medical treatment, said Alicia Carter, GSP Waycross Post secretary. Casvant was westbound on the South Georgia Parkway near mile marker 8 (Fire Tower Hill) driving a 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck when he experienced a medical issue. His truck crossed into and across the grassy center median and entered the eastbound lanes still headed west. Carter said the pickup truck collided with the front of a 2012 International ProStar semi that was eastbound on the roadway. The driver of the rig, Lakisha Shonta Armstrong, 44, observed the pickup truck veering into her lane and took evasive action, coming to a complete stop prior to the collision. Both vehicles came to a complete rest in the outside eastbound lane. GSP Trooper Gentry Mattox investigated the accident.
